Registered Nurse- First Assist

Description

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a Peri-Operative RN who works in collaboration with the surgeon and healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Intra-operatively, the RNFA practices at the discretion of the surgeon and does not concurrently function as a scrub nurse. The RNFA demonstrates intra-operative nursing behaviors including tissue handling, providing exposure, using instruments, suturing and tying, and providing hemostasis. May perform patient rounds as directed by surgeon during times available for OR duties. Performs pre-operative teaching and assessment of pre-operative surgical data as directed by pre-operative surgical criteria. Position requires 8, 10, or 12 hour shifts to cover department Monday - Friday 06:30 - 17:00. Position requires individual to assume "on call" duty on a rotating basis. Call required to cover evenings, nights, weekends and Holidays.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school or college of nursing required.
• Current New Mexico license as a Registered Nurse required.
• CNOR certification required.
• BCLS, ACLS and PALS required.
• Minimum of two years peri-operative experience is required.
• Proficiency in circulator role is required.
