Summary

Title: Patient Sitter

Department:  Medical Surgical

Description: Conduct visual observation of patients.

Location: Taos, NM - 1397 Wiemer Rd.

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required.

Shift: Varies

Duration: Per-Diem

Position Details
Patient Sitter, Per-Diem, 12 hrs/week, Varied Shifts.
Non-Exempt, Hourly, Bargaining, Non-Benefited position.

Position Summary

The Patient Sitter will work under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Positions self in the patient room at the bedside to maintain constant visual observation of the patient. Never leaves the patient alone or out of sight unless specifically instructed by the nurse. Proactively assists in the provisions of a safe and clean environment. Other duties include:


• Completes verbal report forms for the patients nurse to include information regarding the patient's identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory, or language barriers, as well as any special considerations (NPO, bed alarms, etc.).
• Demonstrates accurate and timely documentation.
• Timely delivery of patient meals.
• Assists with feeding according to patient's needs.
• Maintains knowledge of which patients are NPO or on a restricted diet.
• Consistently demonstrate competence in performing standard treatment procedures and ensuring patient comfort.
• Provides for patient's complete personal hygiene.
• Obtains instructions from the nurse regarding ambulation limitations and course of action for redirection of patient if needed.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:


  • Minimum High School diploma or GED required.
  • BLS required within 6 months of hire date.
